I would have given him to the end of the year. The guy has a two-year deal. Now you're just paying for him to do nothing.
And this team is not doing well in spite of LaPo, not because of him.
The problems start at the top. Pat Martin's son is a board member. What, he's going to talk union shop biz with the players? What a waste of a spot. Right along with David Asper, who like his sister is only good at spending other people's money.
Mack never brought in any decent players to fill the void left when they lost so many starters from last year. And he loves band aid Buck, who is a trooper but not much else.
And then there's CJOB vet Garth Buchko. He tries to silence the media. He forces the team to start the road for four weeks. He lies about the opening of the stadium.
If anyone should have been fired, it should have been that guy.
The board needs revamping. The GM needs to go. And they need a prez who looks after money, not after football. Cause radio hacks have no biz running a football team.Blue Rod Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06129658677253761824noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6039003315257088498.post-20009983844963237762012-07-19T10:12:00.002-07:002012-07-19T10:12:48.353-07:00When is a loan not a loanWhen it's given to a museum that's massively over budget, plans to operate deficits when it opens, and will never have the ability to pay it back.
Started in Quebec, the most socialist province in Canada. Now a group from Alberta is challenging laws on limiting health care. It will happen slowly but some day we will have health care as good as Europe has.
It's not right to limit health care. Opening it up will create jobs, prevent Canadians from leaving Canada for health care and lessen pressure on the public system.Blue Rod Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06129658677253761824noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6039003315257088498.post-85961296644260675672012-06-19T21:51:00.001-07:002012-06-19T21:51:32.478-07:00Mb fails at health carehttp://www.winnipegfreepress.com/breakingnews/Report-gives-Manitoba-D-grade-for-wait-times-159601045.html
The rationing of health care continues. It's a great system unless you need it
It's especially great if you work for a health authority.
If you need help? Sorry... You've got a long wait ahead.
Or if you can't wait, you can go to another country.
But hey, Canada's free health care is still best, right?
Right?Blue Rod Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06129658677253761824noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6039003315257088498.post-11236992918297830542012-06-02T18:31:00.001-07:002012-06-02T18:31:46.305-07:00Asper wants even higher taxes
Less retail sales. And now we have higher taxes. Interprovincial migration losses are piling up.
The deficit is nowhere near being balanced.
But hey, today's NDP tells us things have never been better.
I'd say we can do something about this in 3.5 years, but it also looks like the NDP want to change the eleciton law again and hold the next election later so as not to have their election near the federal election.
Sigh.
Let's see - new arena is too small, not enough washrooms or seats. Wpg settled.
New football stadium - funded through the back door, no roof, useless in winter. Wpg settled.
New waterpark - smaller than Edmonton. Same size and Grand Forks. Wpg settles?
Not yet. But think bigger people. You want world class, you go big.
The only time Wpg hasn't settled is for that useless museum no one's going to visit unless their teachers order them to.
I won't go into great detail, but suffice it to say, Manitoba is doomed under this NDP government. They hit us with the largest tax grab in recent memory.
The gas tax is going to hurt us all. It's an attack on the middle class. It's going to make everything cost more. It's now more difficult for rural people to come to Winnipeg for medical appointments.
And it makes crossing over into Saskatchewan all the more appealing. These high taxes are chasing thousands from Manitoba to other provinces, just like Saskatchewan, which is lowering taxes and growing it's population at our expense. This is felt the most in the west part of the province, where shopping and better paying jobs are only minutes away.
Even expanding the PST - that's an attack on women who get their hair done.
The budget is also nowhere close to being balanced, and as wel continue to lose people to other provinces, we're going to continue to struggle to get into the black.

And nevermind Alberta is set to elect the Wildrose government who are tired of footing the bill for the rest of the country. Especially places like Manitoba and Quebec, who feel entitled to their entitlements at their expense.

We're in a lot of trouble, and this government, who cower in fear at the feet of unions, is ill prepared to do anything about it.Blue Rod Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06129658677253761824noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6039003315257088498.post-82974746833200370022012-03-31T14:53:00.000-07:002012-03-31T14:53:27.313-07:00NDP is in troubleThey are crying about the federal budget - one that doesn't go deep enough in cuts as far as I'm concerned.
They cry about not getting enough money from Ottawa while living far beyond their means and rewarding their union friends every chance they get.
They are a disaster and we deserve this. We elected these bums yet again.
They have no plan. No way to grow this province. No plans to tap into the vast wealth that sits in the ground because they cower in front of First Nations and enviromentalists, and they don't care what happens 30 miles outside Winnipeg.
The upcoming budget will be a disaster. I expect even more people to flee, and soon even record immigration won't help.
And even if the province conitnues to "grow" it will be the wrong kind of growth. The loss of our youth to other provinces with lower taxes and safer cities. While the poor and old remain, begging for a socialist government to care for them from cradle to grave.
We're doomed.Blue Rod Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06129658677253761824noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6039003315257088498.post-55946314420118971422012-03-21T13:33:00.002-07:002012-03-21T13:33:55.638-07:00Charles Adler - Tori's LawDo you think those who abuse and murder children deserve a lethal injection?
We're already getting pounded with property and education taxation hikes. Reassessment continues to make people who actually care for their homes pay more taxes while the inner core pays less. Unemployment is up. Interprovincial migration losses are rising.
It's January. The NDP are laying the groundwork for breaking a lot of their election promises by saying things are in fact worse than they thought. Apparently they only realized right before Christmas (when people could care less) that there was a flood and it affected Manitoba's bottom line.
They didn't apparently know this during the election.
Which is bull.
They lied to us.
Look, Hugh ran a campaign that was socialist drivel. He's lucky he won his seat. But at least he was honest enough to say the books were probably worse than the NDP was letting on.
And now, after they won, so are they.
They were talking floor last January, but were surprised by the costs?
That makes them either bad planners or inept. Which is it?
Ah, that's better... and be sure to keep reading the Black Rod for the real story behind that White Elephant that is the Human Rights Museum. With the ndp smearing Hugh all campaign, and the pcs running a left wing platform, was there any doubt?
I see the rural urban divide is as great as ever. Wpg might not care but times are tough outside the peg
I guess I can root on the sask party next door and hope they continue to grow sask and lower taxes. Maybe then we will get some relief hereBlue Rod Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06129658677253761824noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6039003315257088498.post-66622502266095021122011-09-30T15:18:00.000-07:002011-09-30T15:18:10.690-07:00But wait... despite poll numbers...Some ndpers think they are in trouble.
From Rabble... a poster comments on the ndp...

First off, how was that post a contradiction of my preference that local ridings be allowed to choose their own candidates?
Secondly, if there is anything the federal election taught us, it's that there is no such thing as a "safe seat." Elmwood-Transcona, held by the NDP in 1993, was a "safe NDP seat." If you go a couple hours down the road to Brandon East, that seat was also held by the NDP in 1988, but there is a realistic chance that it could fall out of the NDP column this time around. Besides, maybe Elmwood residents will get tired of Maloway (nobody on the public news boards seems to like him, if that is any indication) but at the same time, maybe some of the southern MLAs, like Kerri Irvin-Ross and Erin Selby have worked hard enough that they will win their seats. Who knows?Blue Rod Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06129658677253761824noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6039003315257088498.post-68715053288660399862011-09-29T17:29:00.000-07:002011-09-29T17:29:00.499-07:00Election predictionFirst off, blues rods blog or whatever, you're going to whine about fake websites? your political masters created one about hugh, as did you. sounds like the ndp can dish it out but can't take it
now, onto business.
I am looking forward to the weekend polls, but i've been reading the globe and sun and wfp and i think we can all agree this will come down to a few votes in a few ridings.
so if you're a big ndper in the north end, or a PC by Winkler, sorry, the election wont' come down to you. South Wpg is where it will be decided.
Which is why I don't put much stock in the polls. The sample sizes have been small and they are notoriously wrong at the provincial level. Look at the last civic election or federal election for proof pollsters are idiots.
This will be all about getting out the vote. Whoever does that best will win.
The PCs have the federal machine behind them, they are out-fundraising the NDP, their base is motivated... the NDP base is motivated too, but after 12 years, it can be easy to go meh.
The weak Liberals hurt the PCs no doubt.
Could be the NDP in a squeaker. I hate to say it but that's how it looks like due to the weakness of the Liberals. No doubt the NDP will lose votes and seats. Heck they could even form gov with fewer votes than the PCs. That's how close it could be.
I'd like to say this bothers me but it doesn't. Every column I read says the same - the NDP and PCs are virtually the same. Whoever wins, we all lose. The only major difference is the bipole and frankly the electorate won't care about this until it starts hurting us in the pocket book.
Wpg might be doing OK but MB is not. In Canada we are now a weak sister akin to PEI. We have little weight at the federal level. I can almost assure you our equalization payments will shrink as Ontario sinks further into deficit.
Everyone's talking how great things are right now. Wait four years. Sponging off Sask and Alberta, losing young people, chasing away investment, it's going to hurt MB. And the spending is not sustainable.
Frankly, I can say we've already lost and we just don't know it.
I think the PCs can still win, but it's looking like the NDP in a squeaker. And that means more interprovincial losses, higher taxes, and the rural urban divide getting worse.
That's Today's NDP. If you're in a union and buddy buddy with the NDP enjoy. The rest of us? Yikes.Blue Rod Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06129658677253761824noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6039003315257088498.post-26477909639515486782011-09-18T09:08:00.000-07:002011-09-18T09:08:21.026-07:00Blues rods blog - a waste of cyber spaceOK not posting much, but I will post on this dolt. All this guy is is a NDP staffer or some U of W student who's proficient with photoshop. Instead of engaging in reasoned, educated debate, he resorts to name calling and silly posters. He's also likely been banned by the WFP and had to change his name more than once. Much like that spoiled brat in the senate, he's likely a silver spoon socialist. Frankly he's a waste of time and every time he posts something, you can be sure he did it giggling like the imature child he really is.
The left want to save the world - he should start by not wasting energy on his useless posts, or bone up and bring some facts to the debate. Right now all he is is a kid wasting everyone's time.Blue Rod Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06129658677253761824noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6039003315257088498.post-2788126712379700412011-09-18T09:02:00.000-07:002011-09-18T09:02:11.223-07:00The reason for the lack of postsIt's election time. I should be blogging away like crazy. But I'm not.
Why?
Well the parties are virtually indistinguishable, that's why. Every day it more spending, more spending, and no explanation of how we're going to pay for it. The MSM media keeps telling us how well we're doing, but that's really only applicable in and around Winnipeg. I'm extremely disapointed the PCs or even the Liberals are not trying to be different from the NDP, but it appears as though this really is becoming a nanny state. I keep waiting for a chicken in every pot pledge.
Don't get me wrong the NDP are out to lunch with their bipole III plan (which I suspect is their way to give the unions even more cash through a larger and more expensive project). But outside that, what is there? What's supposed to excite me? More debt? Continued reliance on Sask and Alberta?
As we continue to lose our youth to inter-provincial migration, how am I supposed to be excited about these choices?Blue Rod Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06129658677253761824noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6039003315257088498.post-88719766568701297232011-08-30T05:04:00.000-07:002011-08-30T05:04:02.369-07:00Crass NDP too opportunistichttp://www.winnipegfreepress.com/breakingnews/Selinger-dedicates-re-election-drive-to-Layton-128638048.html

Personally, I feel this "dedication" is crass opportunism. Using Layton's death to try and get a bump at the polls feels extremely tacky, especially when you consider the federal NDP and provincial NDP don't see eye-to-eye on a number of issues - crime and gun control being the two most obvious.
All I'll say for now is that I'm sure the NDP don't want this story in the papers.Blue Rod Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06129658677253761824noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6039003315257088498.post-47187667938933383142011-08-16T12:19:00.001-07:002011-08-16T12:19:25.819-07:00Heather Mallick goes too farI enjoy great debate and great points from both the left and right, even if I don't always agree.
Then there's Heather Mallick. A man-hating extreme lefty. She probably thinks the NDP is too right wing.
If you don't know who she is, read this. And know that you can go too far when writing columns. Personally, I was glad to see her get sued and the Toronto Star forced to apologize on her behalf.
A silly, NDP-type request. Yes it's sad to see Mrs. Asper pass away, but that's hardly a reason to lower the flags. That should be left for things such as military and prime ministers and such.
As for Hi There, has anyone noticed he's not posting on the FP anymore? I wonder if he's one of these people who have been banned by the paper for posting. I would not doubt it, based on some of his idiotic posts.
The NDP are sure turning into a mean-spirited party as the election draws near.Blue Rod Bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06129658677253761824noreply@blogger.com0
