NDP moves ahead with UNESCO

Wasting money to protect an area they will run a road through but not a bipole line? Hypocrites. Think of all the oil and coal that will be wasted thanks to the longer, less effecient route they want to give their union buddies more money.
And to top it all off who's ever going to visit this site in the middle of nowhere? No one. Jasper, yes. Manitoba UNESCO area, no.

  1. With the NDP in charge, it's all about the Unions.

    1. Yeah, damn that NDP - actually caring about what the democratic representatives of workers say. Incidentally, I suppose you were asleep as the "Today's NDP" heavy-handed tactics in dealing with the BUFA.

    2. Think. That union means next to nothing to the NDP. They care about CUPE, the nurses, the teachers, the unions that fill their coffers.
It's an incestuous relationship. One makes it easier for unions to operate, the other funnels money back into the NDP for elections and helps pick the leader.
All while screwing over the rank and file.
The end result? The horrible financial situation we are in today.
      That's Today's NDP

  2. The "horrible financial situation we're in today" is because of two things.

    1) The need to stimulate the provincial economy in a period of slow global economic growth.

    2) The need to train various nurses to fill the giant hole in the healthcare system created by Gary Filmon. Human capital is very expensive to replace.

  3. Really? I thought we were so diversified, we weathered it, thanks of course to record transfer payments
and please stop crying about nurses from what, 15 years ago now? From an era when transfer payments were actually cut, not ramped up to record levels.
So we're going to spend our way out of trouble? Seems to me, that's what got us in this mess in the first place.
So of course, building a longer, less effecient bipole is the answer. And the less green energy we will get because of the extra lenght, I suppose that's a good thing too?
You should hear the left sometimes. What a joke. And what a day to see all that extra money flow into the union coffers.

    1. 1) Being recession-resistant isn't the same thing as being supernaturally immune to any global shock. Manitoba fared better than most provinces, btw.

      2) Transfer payments aren't something new, aren't exclusive to NDP governments in Manitoba, and aren't exclusive to Manitoba either.

      3) I'm sorry, but it happening "15 years ago" doesn't change the fact that the PCs fucked this province over and resulted in the flight of many, expensive to train, nurses to other provinces like Alberta.

      4) Ignoring the costs of changing course on BiPole, Hydro overall is a profitable sector of the economy.

      5) Btw, I'd like to comment on what a nice bit rationalization it was when you worked yourself out of cognitive dissonance by saying that university prof unions don't matter to the Manitoba NDP. Despite the fact that the Manitoba NDP pissed off a lot of backers and people in the labour movement by applying such heavy handed tactics. I guess when teachers democratic representatives are fucked over, you'll move on to saying that they don't matter either.

      6) You do know that newcomers to this site will be asking you "who's the Orange Rod"? Does your intense spite and hatred over a (not particularly effectual) partisan blogger never die down?

    2. Hey truth nice to see you over here.
There's something called Google. You type in Orange Rod Blog and there you go.
And as long as you still visit, I'll occassionally post something, just to piss you off.
You still have no moral high ground on a number of issues, especially a longer line that hurts Mother Earth more by wasting all they energy and ripping through more land.
Shame on you and all dippers.
And like I said, unions pick the leader for the NDP and will forever rule the party. Or I should say big unions. There's a reason the NDP doesn't mess with teachers, public service and nurses, but threw those professors under the bus in Brandon.
Hey look - we just lost more people to interprovincial migration. I guess our youth are smarter than us - they know when to get out of dodge.
Train nurses for Alberta? We're training everyone for Alberta. Only the champange socialists and the poor are staying here.
Please keep stopping by, insulting me, and trying to hurt my feelings. And keep justifying all the bad policies. In four years when we really hit rock bottom, I'll be there to say I told you so.

  4. Public monies should not be put into contracts between a supplier and a buyer when the buyer is directed by the supplier.

Yet, as Blue points out, that's the 'Manitoba Advantage' under the NDP regime. It is hardly worth detailing the various bizarre effects, they should mainly have been anticipated and come as no surprise when details surface.

Manitobans should rise to put a stop to this fiasco, elect a party set against Union, and old money, and Federal party dictates. Non-partisan and pragmatic.

    (Eh, wot, Blue...?)
